Novena Hopes is Jakob Lotta’s debut film. A poetic docu-drama in nine chapters, each paired with an original soundtrack track. Shot on a Nokia N95 over nine days before the major heart surgery of Mária, Lotta’s 85-year-old caretaker, it moves between intimacy and ambiguity to study the bonds and frictions of age, identity, and time. In its final moments, it asks what endures when time runs short, holding hope as its last inheritance.
