Nine days before heart surgery, an 85-year-old woman and her grandson share time and hope. A debut poetic docu-drama by Jakob Lotta.

SynopsisOver nine days before her heart surgery, 85-year-old Mária engages in conversations, silences, and gestures spanning nearly half a century of shared history with her gay grandson, the filmmaker. Shot primarily on a Nokia N95, Novena Hopes favours proximity over polish, allowing its instability to hold the reality of time spent and time remaining. Generational viewpoints intersect and dissolve, presenting hope as something sustained and carried forward.
